Lost Lantern American Single Malt & US of Bourbon Blind Flight

Is blending whiskey from 50 different craft distilleries a stroke of blending genius or a recipe for disaster? Today on Your Bourbon Journey, Wayne and Rebecca are diving into an ambitious showcase from independent bottler Lost Lantern!

Founded by Nora Ganley-Roper and Adam Polonski after their epic “Great Whiskey Road Trip” to over 100 distilleries, Lost Lantern shines a spotlight on America’s finest craft producers. Today, we put three of their unique, highly limited releases to the ultimate test:

  • Lost Lantern American Vatted Malt Reissue (AVM-1) | 105 Proof: A 100% malted barley blend of straight American single malts from 6 heavyweight craft distilleries.
  • Lost Lantern American Vatted Malt Remix (AVM-2) | 110.8 Proof: The evolution of the blend! 11 distinct American single malt distilleries come together.
  • Lost Lantern United States of Bourbon (Edition No. 1) | 123.0 Proof (Cask Strength): The headliner! A blend of straight bourbons sourced from 50 craft distilleries across all 50 U.S. states.

Did 50 bourbons turn into muddy water, or did it shock us by drinking like an Elijah Craig Barrel Proof contender? Watch to find out which bottle took the crown and might just end up in our Whiskey of the Month blind challenge!

Tasting Old Steelhouse: Wheated vs Rye Bourbon

Join Wayne and Rebecca on Your Bourbon Journey as we explore four releases from Old Steelhouse Distillery, purchased directly from their downtown tasting room in Bardstown, Kentucky.

The historic Old Steelhouse property in Deatsville dates back to 1844 as the legendary T.W. Samuels Distillery site. While the historic campus undergoes renovations, we sat down for an epic 4-bottle tasting grid comparing Wheated Bourbon against High-Rye Bourbon across both Small Batch and Single Barrel expressions.

Shout-out to Adam Inman and the team at the Bardstown tasting room for an unforgettable experience! Have you tried Old Steelhouse yet? Let us know your favorite pour in the comments!

We Tested 3 Exotic European Oaks! Starlight Terroir Bourbon

Can the geographic origin of a tree completely transform the flavor of a craft bourbon? We went to the upstairs tasting room at Starlight Distillery to put their highly anticipated Terroir Collection to the ultimate comparative tasting test!

Welcome back to Your Bourbon Journey! Today, Wayne and Rebecca are diving deep into the ultimate whiskey geek show: wood terroir. Starlight Distillery took the exact same 4.5-year-old Indiana Straight Bourbon sweet mash distillate and finished it in six distinct international oak varieties. While the Scandinavian oak was completely sold out, we successfully tasted five and brought home three distinctly different bottles to map out the incredible structural effects of international oak.

We break down three unique barrels sitting at an identical proof range (114.3 to 114.6 Proof) to ensure the heat doesn’t skew the results—allowing the wood density, grain structures, and international soils to tell the story. From the tight-grained, caramel-forward Balkan Oak of Bulgaria to the porous, highly oxidative Iberian Oak of Spain, and the intensely resinous, baking spice bomb that is the Carpathian Oak of Romania, this lineup will completely change how you view finished whiskey. Stick around until the end to see the shocking twist where our initial distillery impressions get completely flipped upside down on our home palates!

4/20 Special: Tasting the Dark Arts Blunt Blend Batch

It’s 4/20 and we are “weeding” out the latest release from Dark Arts Whiskey House! In this episode of Your Bourbon Journey, Wayne and Rebecca dive into the Blunt Blend Batch 3, affectionately known as “The Dank Arts.”

This isn’t your average rye. This is an 8-year-old Indiana Rye (likely MGP) that has undergone a sophisticated double-finish in both Madeira and Armagnac casks. Bottled at a stout 113.8 proof, this whiskey promises a complex journey from a fruit-forward nose to a surprising “chocolate” finish that left us questioning if we were actually eating a candy bar!

In this video, we explore:

  • The unique “Dank Arts” branding and 4/20 inspiration.
  • The impact of the Madeira and Armagnac double-finish on a high-rye mash bill.
  • Full tasting notes: Discover why Wayne calls this a “Top 5 Rye” of all time.
  • A breakdown of the viscosity (those legs!) and the “chocolate pop” on the palate.
  • Our experience ordering online from Dark Arts—is the shipping worth the cost?

Whether you’re a “rye guy” or usually stick to bourbon, this complex, viscous, and spicy “Blunt Blend” might just be your new favorite pour. Stick around for the end where we discuss upcoming cigar pairings and a “special” summer report!

Glenns Creek Patriotic Meri-COB: Red, White & Blue Corn

In this episode of Your Bourbon Journey, Wayne and Rebecca head to the historic grounds of Glenns Creek Distilling to crack open a very special bottle: the Patriotic Meri-COB.

This isn’t just any bourbon; it’s the first new product release from the distillery since 2021! Distilled in the shadow of the former Old Crow ruins, this 100% Corn Bourbon is a masterclass in heirloom grains. We’re breaking down the “Red, White, and Blue” mash bill featuring Bloody Butcher Red, Hickory King White, and Hoppi Blue corn.

From its buttery “kettle corn” sweetness on the nose to a surprising savory, black pepper finish, this 105-proof powerhouse is a contender for our Whiskey of the Month. Is it the “Tail of Two Bourbons”? Watch to find out if this $80 bottle lives up to the hype!

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Incredibly sweet and complex. Heavy notes of butterscotch, vanilla, and sweet heirloom corn without the typical “dusty funk.”
  • Palate: Thick viscosity with a “buttery popcorn” or “kettle corn” mouthfeel. Initial caramel sweetness transitions into a deep, savory complexity.
  • Finish: Long and warming with a touch of black pepper and a lingering “sugary” kettle corn essence.

We were shocked by that buttery kettle corn note on the finish! Have you ever picked up a popcorn note in your bourbon before, or are we just crazy? Let us know in the comments! 👇
