Why You MUST Visit Glenns Creek Distilling in Frankfort, KY

Is Glenns Creek the Most Authentic Stop on the Bourbon Trail?

In this episode of Bourbon Trail Tales and Tastes, we’re heading deep into the heart of Frankfort, Kentucky, to visit our 57th distillery: Glenns Creek Distilling. Located on the historic, rugged grounds of the abandoned Old Crow Distillery, this is anything but a corporate tour.

Join us as we sit down for an unforgettable 2.5-hour tasting with the legendary and “eccentric” owner and master distiller, David Meier. From sticking our fingers in the mash to hearing the wild stories of how David propagated yeast from the original Old Crow Fermenter #5, this visit was a birthday highlight we won’t soon forget!

πŸ₯ƒ Bottles on the Table

We’re tasting two unique expressions that prove “lazy” isn’t in the Glenns Creek vocabulary:

  • OCD #5 Bourbon: The flagship. Crafted with a high-corn mash bill and that historic Old Crow yeast, this 103.2 proof beauty is packed with notes of toffee, butterscotch, and deep barrel char.
  • CafΓ© OlΓ© Bourbon: Imagine OCD #5 with a dark side. By adding chocolate malted barley, David has created a mocha-forward masterpiece. Think dark chocolate, espresso, and rich butterscotch.

Have you ever braved the backroads to find Glenns Creek? David Meier is a legend in the makingβ€”tell us your favorite “Cranky Dave” story or which of these bottles you’re hunting next in the comments below! πŸ‘‡

Your Bourbon Journey Crowns Patriotic Meri-COB from Glenns Creek Distilling as 2025 Whiskey of the Year

FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

Newburgh, IN – January 10, 2026 – Following a rigorous year-long evaluation of over 100 whiskeys, Your Bourbon Journey, the digital spirits platform hosted by Wayne and Rebecca McBrayer, is proud to announce Patriotic Meri-COB from Glenns Creek Distilling as the winner of its inaugural 2025 Whiskey of the Year award.

The selection process was governed by a strict, multi-stage blind tournament designed to eliminate brand bias and focus solely on spirit quality. The field of 16 contenders – comprised of 12 “Whiskey of the Month” winners and four high-scoring “Wildcard” entries – competed in a bracket-style playoff.

β€œOur goal was to find the best whiskey on the shelf, regardless of price point or prestige,” said Rebecca, co-founder of Your Bourbon Journey. β€œBy the time we reached the Final Four, we were tasting the elite of the elite. To see a #2 seed like Patriotic Meri-COB run the gauntlet against three #1 seeds was the ultimate proof of our blind process at work.”

The Road to the Championship

The tournament followed a “Sweet Sixteen” format, where bottles were seeded based on their performance in quarterly qualifying rounds. Patriotic Meri-COB’s path to the title was a true “Giant Slayer” narrative, requiring head-to-head victories over Neeley Bottled in Bond Four Grain, Wild Turkey 101 8-Year, Old Louisville Cognac Finish, and ultimately, Bardstown Discovery Series 13.

β€œThe consistency was what ultimately set the winner apart,” noted Wayne. β€œIn four separate rounds of blind tasting, the Patriotic Meri-COB never dipped below a 94-point score. It was a model of excellence from the first pour to the final championship glass.”

Award Presentation

In recognition of this achievement, Your Bourbon Journey will travel to the historic Glenns Creek Distilling in February 2026 to officially present the 2025 Whiskey of the Year Championship Trophy to the distilling team.

Glenns Creek Patriotic Meri-COB: Red, White & Blue Corn

In this episode of Your Bourbon Journey, Wayne and Rebecca head to the historic grounds of Glenns Creek Distilling to crack open a very special bottle: the Patriotic Meri-COB.

This isn’t just any bourbon; it’s the first new product release from the distillery since 2021! Distilled in the shadow of the former Old Crow ruins, this 100% Corn Bourbon is a masterclass in heirloom grains. We’re breaking down the “Red, White, and Blue” mash bill featuring Bloody Butcher Red, Hickory King White, and Hoppi Blue corn.

From its buttery “kettle corn” sweetness on the nose to a surprising savory, black pepper finish, this 105-proof powerhouse is a contender for our Whiskey of the Month. Is it the “Tail of Two Bourbons”? Watch to find out if this $80 bottle lives up to the hype!

⭐ Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Incredibly sweet and complex. Heavy notes of butterscotch, vanilla, and sweet heirloom corn without the typical “dusty funk.”
  • Palate: Thick viscosity with a “buttery popcorn” or “kettle corn” mouthfeel. Initial caramel sweetness transitions into a deep, savory complexity.
  • Finish: Long and warming with a touch of black pepper and a lingering “sugary” kettle corn essence.

We were shocked by that buttery kettle corn note on the finish! Have you ever picked up a popcorn note in your bourbon before, or are we just crazy? Let us know in the comments! πŸ‘‡

Glenns Creek 10th Anniversary: Flood Survivor Whiskey!

Glenns Creek Distilling 10th Anniversary: A Flood Survivor Story & Exclusive Review! πŸ₯ƒ

We just got back from a trip to Frankfort, Kentucky, where we celebrated a truly special milestone: the 10th Anniversary of Glenns Creek Distilling! This wasn’t just any party; it was a testament to resilience and the incredible spirit of a community rallying around distiller David Meier and his team.

Just imagine: after suffering devastating losses from the horrific Frankfort floods, Glenns Creek Distilling worked tirelessly to make sure this event happened. The result? A fabulous day of camaraderie, shared passion, and some truly extraordinary whiskey.

In addition to meeting some amazing people, the silent auction was definitely a highlight for us. Fans traveled far and wide to bid on highly sought-after bottles, including flood survivors, crowd favorites, and even some from David Meier’s private collection. We were absolutely thrilled to win one of the most coveted bottles: the Millville Malt – a Kentucky Malt Whiskey. David himself told us he only ever made three barrels of this rare gem, and he hated to see it go!

As soon as we got home, we knew we had to open it and give it a full, honest review in honor of David and everyone at Glenns Creek Distilling.

What makes this expression so special? Click play ▢️ now to join us for our unfiltered tasting notes and discover if this rare “Millville Malt” truly lives up to its legendary status!

3-Ingredient Rye Cocktail for a Cause: The “Old Cranky Dave”

It’s Thirsty Thursday! 🍹 And this week’s Episode 14 of our bourbon cocktail series has a meaningful twist! πŸŽ‰ We’re making the “Old Cranky Dave” – a simple and refreshing 3-ingredient cocktail featuring rye whiskey πŸ₯ƒ, root beer 🍺, and lime juice πŸ‹β€πŸŸ© (think elevated Root Beer Rickey!). We’ll show you exactly how to make it step-by-step and explain why this unique combination works so well.

The name “Old Cranky Dave” is a loving nod to David Meier, the Owner & Distiller at the fantastic Glenns Creek Distilling. πŸ‘ However, our reason for highlighting Dave and his distillery is serious.
