Unboxing Rare Remus Reserve: Lux Row Distillery Event Haul

We are officially hooked! In this episode of Your Bourbon Journey, we dive deep into the highly coveted Remus Reserve Collection from Ross & Squibb Distillery. After an exclusive, intimate tasting event with Master Distiller Ian Stirsman at Lux Row Distillers, we walked away as full converts to the MGP / Luxco flavor profile. Today, we are cracking open three incredible bottles to see how they stack up side-by-side.

First up is the spectacular Remus Gatsby Reserve 2025, a massive 15-year-old straight bourbon whiskey bottled at a cask strength of 102.8 proof. Released as a centennial celebration of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic 1925 novel.

Next, we step up to the plate with the brand-new, limited-edition Remus Lou Gehrig Reserve (Released May 2026). Honoring the Iron Horse’s legendary 109 RBI season in 1926 at 109 proof, this bottle masterfully blends four distinct mash bills to match his iconic #4 jersey.

Finally, we round out the lineup with the heavy-hitting Remus Babe Ruth Reserve (2025 Edition). Clocking in at the highest proof on the table at 111, this medley of three high-rye mash bills commemorates the Bambino’s career professional at-bats.

We Tested 3 Exotic European Oaks! Starlight Terroir Bourbon

Can the geographic origin of a tree completely transform the flavor of a craft bourbon? We went to the upstairs tasting room at Starlight Distillery to put their highly anticipated Terroir Collection to the ultimate comparative tasting test!

Welcome back to Your Bourbon Journey! Today, Wayne and Rebecca are diving deep into the ultimate whiskey geek show: wood terroir. Starlight Distillery took the exact same 4.5-year-old Indiana Straight Bourbon sweet mash distillate and finished it in six distinct international oak varieties. While the Scandinavian oak was completely sold out, we successfully tasted five and brought home three distinctly different bottles to map out the incredible structural effects of international oak.

We break down three unique barrels sitting at an identical proof range (114.3 to 114.6 Proof) to ensure the heat doesn’t skew the results—allowing the wood density, grain structures, and international soils to tell the story. From the tight-grained, caramel-forward Balkan Oak of Bulgaria to the porous, highly oxidative Iberian Oak of Spain, and the intensely resinous, baking spice bomb that is the Carpathian Oak of Romania, this lineup will completely change how you view finished whiskey. Stick around until the end to see the shocking twist where our initial distillery impressions get completely flipped upside down on our home palates!

Respect The Grain: Tasting Spirits of French Lick

The Morning Glory & Smoked Apple Brandy! | Spirits of French Lick Review

Can a bourbon made with Kasha and Buckwheat actually taste good? Today on Your Bourbon Journey, Wayne and Rebecca are heading back to 2024 to relive their visit to Spirits of French Lick in West Baden, Indiana. They are diving into the wild history of The Morning Glory Bourbon and a high-proof surprise gifted by a friend: Palindrome Smoked Apple Brandy.

From the “Alchemist” himself, Alan Bishop, these spirits are anything but traditional. We break down the unique grain-forward profile of a bourbon inspired by a rough-and-tumble Civil War-era tavern and see if three drops of water can tame a 137.7 proof apple brandy finished in Islay scotch butts.

In this video, we discuss:

  • Our experience as the “first-ever” tour for a nervous but wonderful guide.
  • The “Respect the Grain” philosophy behind the mash bill of 16% Kasha and 2% Buckwheat.
  • A full tasting of The Morning Glory: Is it a “savory shredded wheat” or a “cinnamon-free churro”?
  • The Palindrome Brandy breakdown: Salted caramel, smoke, and the “Islay effect.”
  • The “Water Test”: How three drops completely shifted the profile from baked pie to fresh orchard.

Is This the Best Apple Brandy Cocktail? Hoosier Meets Caribbean

Indiana Heritage Meets Caribbean Spice in “The Orchard’s Journey”

Welcome back to Your Bourbon Journey! In Episode 66 of our Thirsty Thursday series, we are bridging the gap between the refined rows of the Huber family orchard in Indiana and the aggressive, tropical “hogo” funk of Jamaica.

Tonight, I’m showing you how to craft The Orchard’s Journey, a sophisticated, spirit-forward cocktail that features two powerhouse pours from Starlight Distillery: their 112-proof Apple Brandy Cask Finished Bourbon and their incredible 12-Year Estate Apple Brandy.

We’re adding a deep, jammy anchor with Merlet Cassis and a savory, spicy kick with 30 drops of Bittercube Jamaican #1 Bitters. If you love complex, dry, and wood-influenced cocktails, this “Funky Apple Sipper” is for you!

Join me as we explore:

  • The unique cinnamon-apple bridge of Starlight’s finished bourbon.
  • The transformed, caramelized profile of a 12-year-old estate brandy.
  • How to balance intense Jamaican spices (ginger, black pepper, allspice) in a stirred drink.
  • A “not-tiki” tropical teaser for next week!

Is Starlight Distillery a Top 5 Midwest Destination? | BTTT E58

Is Starlight Distillery the “King of Indiana”? 🛡️🌾

In Episode 58 of Bourbon Trail Tales and Tastes, Wayne and Rebecca head back to Indiana to visit their 60th distillery: Huber’s Starlight Distillery in Borden. Though it took us a while to finally stop, one visit was all it took to hook us!

Starlight isn’t just a distillery; it’s a massive family destination on the historic Huber Farm featuring a winery, restaurant, produce market, and some of the most innovative bourbon finishes in the country. Today, we’re diving into three distinct expressions that showcase the incredible craft of distillers Ted, Christian, and Blake Huber.

What’s on the table today:

🥂 Champagne Finished Bourbon (117.8 Proof): An “effervescent” spice bomb that tastes like springtime in a glass.

🍯 Honey Finished Bourbon (115.7 Proof): A delicate “hive-to-glass” experience using estate-harvested honey.

🌳 Hoosier Connect French Double Oak (114.5 Proof): A dark, luscious, and toasty “French Toast” pour.

From the “star” spirit safe to the Rickhouse tour with Rikki, we’re breaking down why this distillery is a “must-visit” for any bourbon lover.

In this video, we discuss:

  • Our first tour experience at Huber Farm and the “Midwest Knott’s Berry Farm” vibe.
  • The fascinating history of Indiana distilling laws.
  • Why Starlight’s wine finishes (Champagne and French Oak) stand out from the crowd.
  • Tasting notes for all three bottles—including the “Squeaky Teeth” mouthfeel!
